Prison Time Kickstarter Campaign: Just hours to go

safety lastHi folks.  I’m on assignment today, traveling in the Adirondacks and the Champlain Valley, but I wanted to give a quick shout-out to the people who’ve had our backs this month during this Kickstarter campaign and to those of you still waiting on the sidelines.

Gideon Irving said it best in the comment section:  “You can do it!  You can do it!”

The truth is we’re down to the wire. As I write this,we have 65 hours to raise a little more than $1,800. (Click here to give!)

And there’s a lot at stake.  Because of Kickstarter’s unique funding model, if we don’t make our goal, we don’t receive any of the money we’ve raised so far.

Let me say that again.

If we don’t reach the finish line, we’re back at the starting line.  Which means that your $1 or $10 gift can literally unlock more than $17,000 to help us with our important work.

We’re telling stories about one of the most remarkable and troubling chapters in American

history — our society’s forty year experiment in mass-incarceration.

We’re also talking with deep focus about the prison industry in New York and the North Country, about how the growth of prisons and the drug war changed our communities.

We have a vision of this as a grassroots, community-funded project.  And right now the need is measured in minutes as well as dollars.

So before you click away, think about how you’ll spend $10 over the next year.  Think about the amount of good that ten-spot can do helping this journalism project.

Giving is quick, safe, affordable, and we promise we’ll do great things with your generous support.
