Support investigative, grassroots journalism
Last January, North Country Public Radio did something that very few news organizations in America still have the guts and wherewithal to do.
This small, rural network based in northern New York gave the green light to a year-long series of investigative reports looking at one topic: the impact of Nelson Rockefeller’s drug laws and the vast prison industry that grew from those laws.
NCPR gave us the time and support to go deeper, spending months finding the sources, the buried facts, the old archival recordings.
We’ve broken some big stories already, thanks to early donations from good friends who believe in this kind of reporting.
In this 40th anniversary of Rockefeller’s drug laws, we’re talking about prisons at a time when northern New York’s prison towns face huge changes, huge questions about their future.
At the end of the year, we’ll be producing an hour-long documentary that will air on public radio stations nationwide that pull all the threads together.
But the simple fact is that to finish the project we need a final shot of support. We’re using a cool new fundraising tool called Kickstarter to ask for grassroots dollars from people like you.
Here’s the great part. Literally a single dollar donated right now at our kickstarter site will give us huge momentum. One dollar, or $10, or $100. You set the amount. You make great journalism happen. There’s a direct connection.
So check out our Kickstarter video below and then give by clicking here. It’s completely easy, safe and we think the work is important. Thanks.
